Project Overview

A rotoscoping animation project created as part of a Year 12 major work film, combining frame by frame illustration with digital editing to explore movement and visual storytelling through experimental animation.

Ideation

Explored how live action footage can be translated into animation, focusing on capturing realistic movement while allowing space for expressive interpretation through drawing and timing.

Concept Development

Original footage was recorded and selected for two contrasting sequences: a peaceful monkey scene and a moving car sequence. These were planned to explore different pacing, motion types and visual tone before animation began.

Execution

Each video was broken into individual frames and manually illustrated over to create fluid rotoscoped animation. The sequences were then edited and refined to enhance timing, continuity and visual flow, resulting in two completed experimental animations. Created using Adobe Premiere Pro and Final Cut Pro.
